A Wellness based lifestyle is being followed by people solo and even as a group of friends or families to keep the momentum going. Everyone has their own unique needs and finding what works with you is the first step.
Here are some simple tips that will help guide you or your family into a wellness lifestyle.
Start your day with a healthy breakfast
Start your day with a healthy breakfast that helps fuel your body with energy it needs and can help set the right tone for eating habits for the remainder of the day. If you have children, involve them in the planning or preparing process for at least 1-2 meals each week. This kind of encouragement and involvement allows your family members to build ownership and helps with consistency over the long term. Create a meal plan for the week that works with your current schedule.
Here are some recipes you can try:
Taking control and making a plan can help you get out of an old habit of snacking on less nutritious options. Doing this together with your family or with your partner, can increase your willpower to say no.
Avoid purchasing “cheat” snacks and instead keep delicious and fulfilling healthy options at home. Eating healthier snacks throughout the day can divert cravings. Here are some snacking options that have worked for my own family:
- Energy Protein Balls
- Mixed Nuts
- Plain Popcorn
- Fruits and Vegetable
- Dark Chocolate
- Protein Shakes
Being active can become an easy routine in the summer time if you plan to go for a leisurely walk to the park before or after dinner. A simple game of soccer in the backyard or in the colder months a quick game of tag around the house.
If timing permits, plan to visit an indoor or outdoor playground. The weather should never be an excuse to not stay active.
Open conversation can be powerful. Talk to someone, a friend, family or professional about anything that has been bringing you down. Mentally stay active by reading, doing puzzles or take on a hobby.
Simply, get some fresh air
If you work indoors or don’t get many opportunities to step outside your home for hours in a day, simply getting some fresh air can do wonders for your wellbeing. Get into a routine of doing so every day for at least 5-15 mins.
